Lady Tide opens season by splitting games

The Picayune Lady Tide Softball team opening their season Saturday
with a pair of games in the Barry Harper Softball Tournament held at
Pearl River Community College .
Petal 6 Picayune 2
Petal scored 4 runs in the bottom half of the 1st inning as the young
Picayune squad committed several errors. Petal tacked on one more
run in the third to move the score to 5-0. Picayune finally got on the
scoreboard when Tiffany Reed stepped to the plate and hit a monster
shot home run over the right field fence. Petal added one more run
in the 4th and Picayune answered with a run in the 5th when Taylor
Seals walked moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Millie Gill
and scored on a double by Katie Hebert.
Katie Hebert (0-1) took the loss on the mound striking out 8,
walking 5, allowing only 2 hits.
Picayune 5 Vancleave 2
Pitcher Katie Hebert (1-1) pitched a 5 inning game striking out 15 batters,
allowed no hits and walked nine batters. Hebert struck out three of the
first four batters allowing one batter to reach on a base on balls in the first.
The second inning was much the same as three of four batters struck out
she issued another base on balls. The third and fourth innings were almost
carbon copies of each other also. In the third Vancleave loaded the bags
and scored after another base on balls before Hebert pitched out of the
inning and sat down the next three Vancleave batters. with bases loaded.
In the fourth, the lead off batter reached after being hit by a pitch, then
Hebert issued a base on balls, an error and another base on balls pushed
another run across for Vancleave. With bases loaded, Hebert once again
fanned out the next three batters to get out of the inning.
Picayune scored two runs in the first and three in the second. With two outs, Tiffany Reed walked and moved to second on a single from Katie Kent. Brandi Rabion followed with a two run double to right. Picayune scored three runs in the third when Hillary Dickens singled and moved to second on a passed ball and on to third base on a fielders choice off the bat of Natalie Guy. Millie Gill singled and moved to second on a errant throw. Dickens scored on a single by Mallorie Mixon. Mixon and Gill were drove in on a two run single from Tiffany Reed.
Picayune will travel to Hattiesburg on Thursday before returning home Friday hosting the Stone County Tomcats
