House 'K'ages the Bay High Tigers 9-0

by Carey Meitzler

Picayune--T.J. House turned in a dominating pitching performance with 16 K's (strikeouts) and the Maroon Tide provided

ample support both defensively and offensively as Picayune defeated the Bay High Tigers 9-0 in Region 8-4A action.  The

win keeps Picayune hopes for a playoff berth alive as it moves their Region record to 3-5.

House set the tone early as he struck out the first three batters he faced.  In the second inning, second baseman Hunter Gill

made an outstanding play as he went deep behind the second base bag and made a quick flip throw to first baseman Evan

Nichelson who scooped up the low throw for the out.  In the second inning, the Tigers managed an infield single with two outs,

but House got another groundball to Gill who flipped the ball to short stop Bryce Ladner for the force out at second base to

end the inning.  House struck out the side in the third inning.

Picayune scored a run in the bottom of the third when Jake Martinez reached on an error and scored on Nichelson's single.

After House struck out the first two batters in the fourth, Gill made what looked like a carbon copy of the same play on the

same batter as he did in the second inning for the third out.

The Maroon Tide blew the game open in the fourth scoring five runs while sending 11 batters to the plate.  Nichelson drove in

two more runs with a single and Jacob Riser followed Nichelson with a single to drive in another run.  Picayune also took

advantage of two passed balls and a wild pitch to score the other two runs to build a 6-0 lead.

Picayune got a single run in the fifth when Jake Martinez walked and eventually scored on a wild pitch for a 7-0 lead.

Brett Milner led off the bottom of the sixth with solo home run to left center field on the first pitch of the inning.  The next

batter, Andrew Lohnes, walked and moved to third base on two wild pitches.  House then lifted a sacrifice fly to center that

plated Lohnes for a 9-0 margin.  House struck out the side in the top of the seventh to close out the game.

House allowed only three hits and did not issue any base on balls.  Nichelson pace the Tide with three hits and three RBIs.

Picayune (5-15, 3-5) will play a doubleheader at Hancock on Saturday and then return home for a Region game with

St. Stanislaus on Monday.
