House leads Picayune past D'Iberville 4-2

by Carey "It was cold again" Meitzler

Picayune-- T.J. House paced the Maroon Tide pitching 5 strong innings, banged out three hits, and drove in

three runs in Picayune's 4-2 win over D'Iberville in Region 8-4A action on a cold, damp night at The Field of

Dreams.

House worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the second inning and accumulated 10 strikeouts in the first four

innings.  In the bottom of the fourth, Picayune's Brandon Jurich singled to right field and moved to second base

on Evan Nichelson's sacrifice bunt.  House blasted a pitch over the left centerfield wall for a 2-0 lead.  After a

strikeout for the second out, Jake Martinez hit a grounder and reached safely on an errant throw from the Warrior

shortstop.  Martinez stole second base and then scored on Bryce Ladner's single to centerfield pushing the lead

to 3-0.

The Maroon Tide scored another run in the fifth.  Hunter Gill reached second when the center fielder was unable to

come up with a catch on Gill's fly ball.   House would drive home Gill later in the inning for a 4-0 lead.

House was lifted with runners aboard in the top of the sixth.  Jonathan Hickman came on in relief and eventually

worked out of the inning, but not before the Warriors were able to score two runs.  Hickman worked a three up

and three down seventh to close out the game.

Picayune (7-2, 2-1) and D'Iberville (3-7, 1-2) will play on Thursday at D'Iberville with JV action at 5:00pm and

varsity action at 7:00pm.
