House fans 13 in 5-0 shutout of Oak Grove

by Carey 'Staff' Meitzler

On a cool, brisk afternoon at Poplarville High School, Picayune's T.J. House heated things up for a little while as he fanned

13 batters in shutting out Oak Grove 5-0 in the Barry Harper Dodge Invitational.

House got all the offensive support he needed in the top of the first inning when Picayune pushed across all five of their runs.

With one out, Evan Nichelson singled sharply to left field and Jared Bales followed with a single to right field.  Brandon Jurich

walked to load the bases.  House's grounder to second base looked like a possible double play, but Oak Grove dropped the

throw to the shortstop and Eric Smith, who was a courtesy runner for Bales,  scored on the play to make it 1-0. Jake Martinez

walked to force in a run and Garrett Williams' fly ball to center field was misplayed allowing Jurich to score making the score

3-0.  Jacob Riser hit a grounder to the second baseman that was bobbled and Riser was safe at first allowing courtesy runner

Matt Archer (running for the pitcher House) to score.  Brett Milner single to centerfield plating Martinez for a 5-0 lead.

House, who used his 90 plus mph fastball and a good mitch of breaking balls, scattered four hits and walked four in going the

distance.

Picayune will play Biloxi at Pearl River Community on Tuesday at 5:00pm.

Jacob Riser takes a pitch in the 1st inning.

Matt Archer (right) scores as Jacob Riser (7) beats the throw to first base.

Brett Milner slaps a single to centerfield that brought in Picayune's 5th run.
