Alumni Game Played in Perfect Conditions

by Carey Meitzler

The annual Maroon Tide Alumni game was played under clear skies and 65 degree weather at the Field of

Dreams.  The day was highlighted by home runs (yes real homers...out of the park!) by Donnie Kellar and

Jeffrey "Bull" Busco.

Kellar also added a single and a double and commented "all I needed was a triple for the cycle."   Interesting

comment since Kellar called for a pinch runner each time he reached base.

Nonetheless, it was a great day for all the alumni to mingle, joke, poke fun, and play a little baseball.

Corey Tate gets ready to deliver a pitch.

Jeffrey Busco takes a lead at first base while Donnie Reynolds plays behind the runner at first.  Busco was no threat to steal.

Maroon Tide skipper Coach Cayne Stockstill shows he's still got it as he ropes a single to centerfield.

Cody Stogner, a former catcher, makes a nice play at third base as he throws over the head of base umpire Kevin Hedgepeth.

Matt Penton slides in safely at second base for a double.

Jason Bounds has to take a seat to take in a low throw at first base that allowed Corey Tate to reach first safely.

Darby Jackson, Rhett Shafette, and Matt Penton enjoy a moment in the dugout area.

Harvey Miller, his grandson, Donnie Kellar, Jason Bounds, and Shawn Grigsby share a laugh in the dugout.

Shawn Grigsby releases a pitch.

Dustin Thibodeaux is safe at first on his grounder.

John Dobson applies the tag to the knee of baserunner Dustin Thibodeaux.  "Tib" was ruled safe on the play, but you be the judge.

Jim Smith takes a pitch a little too close for comfort.
