Maroon Tide Completes Sweep of Hancock with 6-1 Win

In a span of twenty-four hours, the Picayune Maroon Tide picked up a pair of Division 5-5A victories

with a 6-0 win on Thursday at Picayune and completed the sweep with a 6-1 victory at Hancock on

Friday.  Dominating pitching was once again the key for Picayune as junior right hander Brandon

"B-Rob" Robbins improved to 4-1 going the distance to get the win for the Maroon Tide.

Picayune posted a three spot in the first inning to give Robbins all the runs he would need.

Leadoff batter Alex Riser singled, stole second base, moved to third on an infield single by

Sean Garrard and then scored on Heath Stevens RBI single to left field for a 1-0 lead. The

runners advanced on a passed ball.  Hoyt Hughes then lifted a sacrifice fly to score Garrard

and move Stevens to third base.   Britton Fortenberry beat out an infield single allowing

Stevens to score the third run and give Picayune a 3-0 lead.

The Tide added a run in the top of the sixth when Hughes led off the inning with a double to left

center.  After a strike out, Hughes scored from second on an errant throw by the Hawk's were

trying to get Scott Parish at first base on an infield grounder.

Picayune pushed across two more runs in the seventh.  Stevens roped a two-out double to left

field and moved to third on a Hoyt Hughes infield single.  Hughes stole second base and

Fortenberry singled up the middle to drive in both Stevens and Hughes to put the score at 6-0.

Hancock (5-7, 0-3) spoiled Robbins bid for a "shut 'em out" when they scored a run in the bottom

of the seventh inning when Chance Whitfield sliced a single down the right field line driving in

Kade Ladner who reached on an error.

Robbins allowed 4 hits and struck out five Hawk batters for the complete game victory.

Picayune (9-4, 2-1) will be at home on Saturday entertaining Moss Point in a JV game at

11:00am to be followed by the varsity contest at 1:00pm at the Field of Dreams.
