Head Coach Kent Kirkland

Coach Kirkland is a native of Picayune who played baseball and basketball at Pearl River Central Hich School and earned college degrees from Pearl River CC, University of Southern Mississippi, and William Carey College.  During his twenty year coaching career, Kent has led the Picayune Maroon Tide baseball squad for the last 12 years to a record of 263 wins and 86 losses.  After winning several district titles, Coach Kirkland's Maroon Tide teams broke through to the championship level from 2001 through 2003.  His 2001 Picayune team the South State title and were state runner-ups, while his 2002 team squad won the district, South State, and State 4-A title and was ranked the number one team in Mississippi and number four team nationally by the USA Today at the end of the season. In 2003, Kirkland's Maroon Tide team won the district and South State titles, and finished as State 4-A runner-up. Coach Kirkland and his assistants have built a strong baseball program at Picayune with 28 players signing baseball scholarships and two players drafted in the Major League draft.  Kent has coached in the Mississippi State Games, Gulf Coast All-Star Classic, and at Mississippi State University and L.S.U. in the summer camps.  Kirkland has been named the Picayune Item's coach of the year several times. He was the 2001 and 2002 Sun Herald Coach of the Year and the 2002 Clarion Ledger Coach of the Year.  He was also selected the Mississippi Association of Coaches' (MAC) Baseball Coach of the Year in 2003.  This past fall (2003), he was nominated by the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) as Mississippi's nominee for the National Federation of High School's Coach of the Year Award.  Coach Kirkland also is serving on the State High School Baseball Board with the MAC for the 2003-2004 school year.

Volunteer Assistant Bob Ford

      Bob spent many years as one mainstays in developing Picayune's outstanding youth baseball program (PYAA) that has become a major feeder program for Picayune and surrounding high school programs.  Over the past 10 years, Ford has been a constant on Coach Kirkland's staff and has been instrumental in the success of the program.

 

Assistant Coach Cayne Stockstill

     Assistant Coach Cayne Stockstill begins his fifth season at Picayune Memorial High School (PMHS).  Stockstill, a 1995 graduate of PMHS, was a 4-year letterman on the Maroon Tide baseball team under Head Coach Kent Kirkland.  During his senior season, he led the Gulf Coast in hitting and was the first player selected to participate in the MS Crossroads Diamond Club All-Star Game in Jackson, MS. After graduating from PMHS, he attended William Carey College (WCC) in Hattiesburg, MS, where he played on the Crusader baseball team for four years.  While at WCC, the Crusaders won two Gulf South Region Championships and played in three NAIA regiional tournaments.  Upon graduation from WCC, Cayne returned to Picayune and began his coaching career in the spring of 2000 on Coach Kirland's staff.  During his coaching career, he has helped lead the Maroon Tide to four playoff appearances, where the teams earned three South State titles and one State Championship title.  As a coach, he believes in and stresses the importance of hard work, teamwork, and discipline to make each player the best he can possibly be.  Cayne and his wife Ashley have been married for three years and are expecting their first child in April.

Volunteer Assistant Ryan Moreaux

      Ryan launched his high school coaching career as an assistant coach at Picayune Memorial High School in 2002 and is now in his third year on the Maroon Tide staff.  Moreaux, also known as "Remo", was given his nickname in the summer of 2001, when he coached the Maroon Tide junior varsity American Legion team.  They won 1st place in every tournament they entered.  His coaching career continued the next two seasons in Picayune.  In 2002,  Remo was part of the coaching staff that helped lead the Maroon Tide to their best season ever and a Class 4A State Championship.  He played college baseball at Mississippi State University and finished his degree at L.S.U., where he met up with the legendary Skip Bertman.  Moreaux gained experience at L.S.U. running Bertman's camps and clinics. 

     Ryan is the son of Ryan Moreaux, Sr. and Yvette Moreaux and is married to the former Olivia Hobgood.  His favorite hobbies include reading the Bible and coaching hitting.
