Picayune sweeps Stone County

Picayune gained a sweep over Region foe Stone County at Kelly Wise Memorial Gymnasium with the girls winning 52-45 and
the boys topping the Tomcats 75-67.
Lady Tide 52 Stone County 45
Andrea Jackson scored 12 points in each half to lead the Lady Tide past the Lady Tomkittens. The win evens Picayune's
record at 1-1 in the Region and 13-5 overall.
Picayune lead 24-20 at the half and 36-34 after three quarters. Stone tied the game at 40-40 with 6:12 left in the game.
Sharond Jackson scored on a put back off a missed shot with 4:10 left to give the Lady Tide the lead for good. Andrea
Jackson made 4 of 4 free throws in the last :37 seconds to keep the Lady Tide in control.
Tee Myers added 9 points and grabbed 9 rebounds while Mel McGill added 8 points. Sharonda Jackson scored 6 points and
pulled down 15 rebounds for Picayune.
Amanda Evans led Stone County (6-12, 0-1) with 10 points and Seymone Tillman added 8 points.
Maroon Tide 75 Stone County 67
Picayune held off a furious rally by Stone County to even its record at 8-8 overall and 1-1 in Region play.
The Maroon Tide led 42-28 at the half and seemed in control, but Stone's Scott Thames hit three of his six three pointers in
the third quarter to close the gap to 51-48 after three quarters. Stone's Jarel Shelby hit a three pointer to tie the game with
7:15 left in the game. Picayune went on a 17-6 run over the next 5 minutes sparked by seven points from Derionne Stewart
and six points from Vincent Gable to build a 70-59 lead with 2:14 left.
Gable had 24 points including four 3-pointers. Stewart added 15 points while Justin Mark had 10 points off the bench.
Marcus Rawls had 10 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 blocked shots for Picayune. Scotty Merrill added 8 points
and 8 rebounds.
Thames finished with 27 points and Shelby added 18 for Stone County (10-8, 0-1).
