Picayune splits games with Hancock

Picayune-- Hancock's Lady Hawks erase an 8 point deficit and beat the Lady Tide 51-39 win at

Kelly Wise Memorial Gymnasium.  Vince Gable scored 21 points helping Picayune capture a win

n the boys game 56-47.

Girls:  Hancock 51  Picayune 39

The Lady Tide lead 24-19 at the half behind 12 points from Andrea Jackson.  Picayune built a 39-31

advantage with 1:29 left in the third quarter, but Hancock closed the game with a 20-0 run to pull away.

Jackson finished with 17 points and 7 rebounds for the Lady Tide (9-3) and Mel McGill added 9 points. 

Hancock got 15 points from Kristyn McGuire and 13 from Haleigh Arcement in moving their record

to 10-3 on the season.

Boys:  Picayune 56  Hancock  47

Picayune led 22-20 at halftime and built the lead to a 37-27 margin entering the fourth quarter.  The

Maroon Tide pushed the lead to 46-31 with 5:27 left in the game on Alvin Richard's lay up on an assist

from Marvin Richmond.  Hancock chipped away and closed the gap to 51-47 with 1:01 left, but Vince

Gable hit one of two free throws and Rontae Magee scored on a lay up on an assist from Jamal Hall and

converted a free throw to complete the three point play with :28 left.  With :10 left, Magee hit one of two

free throws to give the Maroon Tide the win.

Picayune, now 5-5 on the season, got 9 points each from Derionne Stewart and Scotty Merrill and

Marcus Rawls added 6 points in support of Gable's 21 points.  Alex Meyer had 14 points and Allen

Deschamp added 13 points, including four 3-pointers for Hancock (3-10).
