Picayune sweeps St. Martin at Kelly Wise

Picayune- The home crowd went home happy as Picayune swept visiting St Martin at Kelly Wise Memorial Gymnasium with
the Varsity Girls taking a 56-40 win and the Varsity Boys a 58-54 nail-bitter in non-district action.
Lady Tide 56 St Martin 40
The Lady Tide got 14 points from Arianna McGill and Keanna Magee to defeat St Martin in winning their ninth game of the year
against just two losses. Leading 27-18 at the half, Picayune went on a 8-0 run to start the third quarter and built a 44-28 lead.
Sahara Wilson scored 9 points and grabbed 6 rebounds while Andrea Jackson added 8 points and Sharonda Jackson had
7 points.
Maroon Tide 58 St Martin 54
Trailing 30-24 at the half, Picayune came storming back in the third quarter behind Vince Gable and Marcus Rawls.
Gable scored the first points of the quarter on a short jumper and Rawls scored on off an offensive rebound to cut the lead
to 32-28 with 6:01 left. After a basket by St Martin's Joe Barlow, Gable hit a 3 pointer and Rawls hit a jump shot from eight
feet away to pull to within 34-33 with 2:39 left. After a free throw by the Yellow Jackets Jyrus Carriere, Gable tied the game
at 35-35 with 2:07 left and then put Picayune up 38-35 with another 3 point basket with 1:40 left. After St Martin scored,
Derionne Stewart scored on a put-back of a missed Maroon Tide shot with :59 left. Gable closed out the scoring in the
quarter on a lay up with :39 left giving Picayune a 42-37 lead.
St Martin tied the game at 44-44 on Nick Fairley's steal and lay up with 5:50 left , but Picayune got the next four points
from Stewart to lead 48-44 with 5:11 to play. St Martin cut the lead to 49-48 on Kierre Franklin's lay up with 4:13 left, but
Justin Mark and Scotty Merrill both scored to make it 53-48 with 2:45 left. A lay up by Walton and two free throws from
Franklin cut the lead to 53-52 with 1:50 left. But down the stretch, Gable converted four of four from the free throw line to
secure the win for the Maroon Tide moving their record to 4-5 on the year.
Gable tallied 20 point while Stewart added 13 points and 7 rebounds. Scotty Merrill added 10 points and 5 rebounds and
a pair of steals.
