'Goula dumps Maroon Tide 56-44 in Hoops Fest

Biloxi--Less than twenty fours after Picayune rallied in the second half to blow by the Long Beach Bearcats , the Pascagoula

Panthers gave the Maroon Tide a dose of their own medicine with a 23 point third quarter that propelled 'Goula to a 56-44

victory over Picayune at the Hoops Fest being played at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.

Picayune cut 'Goula's lead to 11-9 on Chris Dees' bucket off a rebound with :21 left in the first quarter.  Dees scored the Maroon

Tide's first basket of the second quarter to tie the game at 11-11.  The Panthers ran off six unanswered points before Dees could

score again and followed by two baskets by Jessie Ulmer that tied the game at 17-17 with 3:22 left.  Wayne Mickel made the

second of two free throws for Picayune's first lead with 2:05 on the clock.  Dees bombed a three pointer to put the Tide up

20-17, but 'Goula came back to tie the game at 20-20 with :30 left.  Dees gave Picayune a 22-20 lead as he scored off a rebound

of a missed free throw.

The Panthers' Marlon Williams caught fire and ignited a 'Goula rally in the third quarter that produced a 43-36 lead.

Williams had 11 points in the quarter and opened the fourth quarter with four straight points to push the Panther lead

to 11 points and they coasted the rest of the way to pick up the non-region win.

Williams finished with 23 points and Adrian Magee added 16 points for 'Goula (18-4).

Dees, who paced Picayune (20-4) with 17 points and 7 rebounds, was the only Tidesmen in double figures.

Picayune returns to Region 8-4A action on Tuesday at Bay High.
