Lady Tide defeats McComb 59-58 in thriller

Picayune--The Lady Tide kept alive their improbable run with a heart-stopping 59-58 win over McComb in the

1st round of the South State playoffs at Kelly Wise Memorial Gymnasium.

With Picayune trailing 58-57 with :06 left, Tee Myers sank two free throws to give the Lady Tide the lead.

McComb called their final timeout and Angelina Earl raced up the court and fired up a shot at the buzzer that

fell short allowing the Lady Tide to advance to the South State Semi-finals on Friday at Elllisville.  Picayune

will play South Jones at 6:00pm.

Picayune cut the McComb lead to 13-9 at the end of the first quarter when Jasmine Ducree scored on a

short jumper off the glass as the horn sounded.  The Lady Tide went on 18-5 run to start the second quarter

to build a 32-26 halftime lead.  Picayune led 42-39 after three quarters.  

Just as the third quarter started, McComb tied the score at 42-42 on a jumper by Angelina Earl.  Picayune

would retake the lead 43-42 on a free throw by Ducree with 5:40 left.  Picayune built a 49-45 lead on a layup

by Ducree with 3:49 left.  McComb tied it at 49-49 with 2:40 left on a layup by Angelique Earl (different player). 

Picayune was 8 for 8 at the free throw line in the last 2:40 of the game.  Clarissa Jones gave the Lady

Tide a 51-49 lead with 2:30 left.  Myers put them up 53-51 with 2:03 left.   Angelina Earl hit a three pointer with

1:42 left to give McComb a 54-53 lead.   Clarissa Jones hit two free throws for a 55-54 lead with 1:32 left.

McComb took the lead 56-55 on a basket off a offensive rebound by Amber Harper with :49 left.

Picayune called a timeout and came back on the floor, moving the ball inside to Ducree who scored on a jumper

from 10 feet away with :38 left giving the Lady Tide a 57-56 lead.  McComb scored with :08 left on a short jumper

off the glass by Ardrekus Dexter to take the lead 58-57.   Picayune called their last timeout.

When play resumed, Jones made a long pass into the front court that Myers out-jumped two McComb defenders

to grab the ball and was fouled as she came down with the ball.  Myers converted her free throws and after

McComb missed the shot by Angelina Earl, the Lady Tide breathed a sigh of relief in taking the win.

Ducree had 23 points and 12 rebounds while Myers finished with 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists..  Teela

Hayes had 7 points as did Sahara Wilson.  Jones finished with 6 points while Ashley Bridges added 4 points.

Reneka Felder led McComb with 20 points and while both Dexter and Angelina Earl had 12 points each. 

Anglique Earl had 6 points and Leiamond Crumedy finished with 5 points.
