Maroon Tide holds off Ocean Springs 49-47

Picayune--The Picayune Maroon Tide won a nail biter at Kelly Wise Memorial Gymnasium holding off Ocean Springs
49-47 in a non-region game. The Maroon Tide appeared to be in control at half time, but had to hold off a furious rally
by the Greyhounds in the closing seconds for the win.
Picayune led 30-20 at the break behind Chris Dees 11 points, but the Greyhounds nibbled away and pulled to within six points
on a 3 pointer by Collin Goley with :50 left in the third quarter.
Dees scored as the final period got underway to put Picayune up 40-32, but Ocean Springs got a lay up from Brian Cooper and
a put back of a missed shot by six foot six inch DeAndre Brown with 6:35 left to make it 40-36. Moments after Chris Dees went
to bench with his fourth foul, Brown scored on another put back to cut the lead to 40-38 with 4:39 left. Wayne Mickel scored
on a lay up with 4:19 to play for a 42-38 lead. Brown was fouled, but missed both free throws with 3:50 left. Dees returned to
the game and scored with 2:30 left to put Picayune up 44-38. Brown scored with 2:16 left and ReShun Smith answered for
Picayune making both ends of a one and one free throw opportunity with 1:26 to play, that gave the Maroon Tide a 46-40 lead.

Cooper got loose and scored on a lay up with 1:15 to play, but Dees scored on a lay up and was fouled, but missed the
free throw with 1:03 left. With Picayune leading 48-42, Ocean Springs' Tre Brown scored his first points of the game
with :49 lefton a long 3 pointer.
After a Greyhound time out, Dees was fouled with :34 left, but missed the front end of a one and one. Ocean Springs
got another basket from Tre Brown with :21 left to cut the lead to 48-47. After another Ocean Springs time out,
Picayune threw the ball out of bounds and Ocean Springs got two shots at the basket, but missed both. Dees rebounded
the second shot and was fouled. Dees made one free throw with :04 left, but missed the second. DeAndre Brown
rebounded the miss and hurried to half court and launch a shot that hit the top of the back board and bounced away
allowing Picayune to hold on for the win.
Dees led the Maroon Tide with 18 points and Brandon Fortenberry added 10 points. David McClain and Wayne Mickel
each tallied 7 points for Picayune and ReShun Smith had 5 points.
DeAndre Brown led Ocean Springs (7-6) with 17 points and Collin Goley added 10 points.
Picayune (11-2, 2-1) will travel to Hancock on Friday.
