Maroon Tide races past Lumberton 81-42

Picayune- The Picayune Maroon Tide stayed unbeaten with a 81-42 win over the Lumberton Panthers at Kelly Wise Memorial

Gymnasium in non-division action on Tuesday night.

Picayune jumped out to a 21-13 first quarter lead behind 14 points from Chris Dees.  In the second quarter, the Maroon Tide

picked up the pace and built a 43-21 lead as Dees scored at the buzzer on an assist from fellow senior Brandon Fortenberry.

Using a strong defensive effort in the third quarter, Picayune extended the margin to 62-29 and cleared the bench

almost the entire fourth quarter.

Dees finished with 28 points with his last basket coming with 3:59 left in the third quarter.  Sophomore Vincent Gable

and Fortenberry each tallied 11 points and senior Reshun Smith scored 10 points for the Maroon Tide (4-0). 

Rubien Miller paced Lumberton with 18.

Picayune trailed 12-8 after one quarter, but Lumberton scorched the nets for 25 points in the second quarter

to lead 37-24 at the half.  The Lady Panthers lead 51-31 after three quarters due to an 8-0 run to end the period.

Picayune chipped away at the lead and cut it to 57-51 on two free throws by Lauren Burks with 1:31 to play,

but could get no closer.   Monique Brown poured in 31 points and Burks added 10 points for the Lady Tide (5-4).
