The Lady Tide took a 20-12 lead to end
the first quarter and never looked back
against a talented Pass Christian team. Dedrea Magee scored the first four
points of the night but they were hardly her last as she ended the game with
33
points and 10 rebounds.
The Dandy Dozen selection was dandy alright and she got help from Breonne
Spikes who chipped in a 23 point effort. The Maroon and Gray were challenged
at
times with the play of Hillary Dedeaux, a post presence who ended the game with
25 points. The Lady Pirates just could never turn the corner against the Lady
Tide who never trailed after early in the first quarter.
The Lady Tide led by by seven at the half 35-29.
The second half saw more of Magee and Spikes making big plays if Pass Christian
even thought about closing in on the lead. The lead would get as wide as 16
points in the second half as the scoring machine of the Lady Tide continued
to
manufacture buckets.
The Lady Tide will be in action again Saturday as they host a Holiday
Tournament at Kelly Wise gym.
Maroon Tide 70 Pass Christian 53
The Maroon and Gray men can be described
as undersized but they played big in
their victory over the Pirates 66-54. The Tide gained their first division win
behind strong play from Chris Griffith and the hot hand of Alan Moran. Griffith
did the dirty work for the hard nose Tide team finishing with 14 points and
10
rebounds. Moran gave the Tide a boost with three treys from beyond the arc in
a
15 point effort from the senior guard.
The first quarter was ugly unless you like defense. In that case it was a thing
of beauty ending with the Tide out in front 13-8.
The offenses would show up for both teams in the second quarter seeing the Tide
stretch their lead to 15 points at one time during the period.
The crowd was brought to its feet by senior Darionne Jones with a nice dunk
to
add to his resume which consisted of 13 points and 5 rebounds for the night. The
teams would visit the locker rooms for half with the Tide leading 35-24.
The scrappy Tide did not let up in the third quarter catching a spark from
sophomore Brandon Fortenberry and extending the margin to 53-35 after three
quarters of play. The Pirates would make a few threats but never really
challenge the Tide who took the win in front of the home fans.
The Maroon and Gray will be in action tonight against North Shore, men action
only beginning at 6 with junior varsity action to be followed by the varsity.
