Maroon Tide pulls away from Blue Devils 57-41

Picayune--The Picayune Maroon Tide held a precarious 22-15 lead over Pearl River Central at half time and used a 9-2 run

to open the third quarter to pull away for a 57-41 win at Kelly Wise Memorial Gymnasium.

Senior Wayne Mickel opened the quarter with a put back of a missed shot and ended it with 3 pointer to give Picayune a 18-8

lead after one quarter.

David McClain got the Maroon Tide rolling in the third quarter with a 3 pointer.  Brandon Fortenberry scored on a lay up to put

Picayune up 27-15 with 7:10 left in the third quarter.  After a short jumper by PRC's Brandon Truman, Fortenberry scored again

and then dished out an assist to Ben Daly to put Picayune up 31-17.  Fortenberry added a free throw and  David McClain scored

to make it 34-17 with 4:01 left.  Picayune built the lead to 38-20 on Jessie Ulmer's jump hook on an assist from Dale Meitzler with

:06 left in the quarter.

PRC cut the lead to 38-27 on a three pointer by Bradley Baker with 6:47 to play, but that's as close as the Blue Devils could get as

the Maroon Tide built a 20 point lead at 53-33 on Shun Smith's 10 footer off the glass with just under three minutes to play.

Mickel led Picayune (19-2, 6-1) with 12 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals.  Brandon Fortenberry added 10 points.

Baker finished with 16 points for the Blue Devils (n/a).

Kayla Drummond tossed in 26 points for PRC (8-12, 1-3).  Brooke Eccles added 11 points.

Janaea Wills scored 16 points for Picayune (0-19, 0-6).
