Maroon Tide Trounces Pearl River, LA 71-33

Pearl River, LA--Picayune closed our their regular season with a 71-33 trouncing of the Pearl River, LA Rebels.  The win

pushed the Maroon Tide's record to 24-5 as they get ready to play in the Region 8-4A tournament to be held at Pass Christian

next week. Picayune will play Thursday against the winner of Tuesday's Pearl River Central / Long Beach game.

The Maroon Tide, playing for the first time in a week, started slow and Pearl River raced to a 10-6 lead, but Chris Dees scored

and his basket was followed by two free throws by Brandon Fortenberry to tie the game at 10-10 with 4:02 left in the quarter. 

The Rebels' Josh Lessard scored to put them up12-10, but Jessie Ulmer scored the next four points to regain the lead for the

Maroon Tide at 14-12.  Dees scored twice to close out the quarter at 18-12.

Dees, who had 10 points in the first quarter, added 6 in the second frame as did Justin Smith that propelled

Picayune to a 38-20 half time lead.

Picayune played everyone in the second half and they all would score for the Maroon Tide.  Picayune led 56-31

at the end of the third quarter.

Dees led Picayune with 19 points and 10 rebounds.  Fortenberry finished with 15 points and Justin Smith

tallied 10 points.

Lessard was the only Rebel in double figures with 13 points.

Picayune trailed 41-31 with 3:31 to play, but Pearl River pulled away.

Ebony Jones had 17 points for Picayune.
