Maroon Tide's Missed Free Throws Contribute to 57-56 Loss;
Lady Tide Cruises Past Hattiesburg 75-37

Boys: Hattiesburg 57 Picayune 56
The Hattiesburg Tigers stayed unbeaten at 3-0 in Division 5-5A play with a heart
stopping 57-56 victory over the Maroon Tide at Hattiesburg on Monday night.
Hattiesburg trailed 49-36 after three stanzas, but rallied to win as Picayune missed
crucial free throws down the stretch. The Tigers won a the Tigers Calvin Wilson,
a 6-8 Dandy Dozen football selection, rebounded a missed shot and put it back
in at the buzzer. Wilson finished with 13 points, 11 in the second half.
Picayune (9-2, 0-1) led 33-23 at the half behind Jarvis Dantzler's 13 points and
Donairies Hair's 8 points. Hattiesburg cut the lead to 7 points early in the 3rd
quarter, but Dantzler, who finished with a team high 21 points, hit consecutive
3 pointers to push the lead to 13 points.
Hattiesburg chipped away at the Maroon Tide lead in the fourth quarter and
Wilson sanked two free throws with 1:10 to play to cut the lead to 54-53.
The Tigers eventually pulled even at 55-55 with :42 left in the game. Picayune
missed 3 of 4 free throw attempts, the last coming with :16 left in the game that
enable Wilson's basket to become the game winner.
The Maroon Tide will compete in the KSA Tournament in Orlando, FL on
Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
Girls: Picayune 75 Hattiesburg 37
The Lady Tide (10-4, 1-0) poured it on from the opening tip and ran away
with an easy victory in their division opener.
Dedrea Magee and Ashley Bell lead the Lady Tide with 16 points each
while Shanquel Whitehead added 13 points.
The Lady Tide will not play again until Dec. 23rd at Northshore (Slidell, LA).
