Lady Tide comeback not enough to overtake N.E. Jones
Dedrea Magee finishes career with 33 points in 69-64 loss
Northeast Jones outscored Picayune 22-6 in the second quarter and held off a
furious second half Lady Tide rally to earn a 69-64 victory at Wayne County in
the South State Quarterfinals.
Breonne Spikes put Picayune up 13-9 with 3 pointer to end the first quarter.
Northeast used a full court press to force the Lady Tide into turnovers and
converted them into a 31-19 lead at half time.
Behind the spirited play of Dedrea Magee, Picayune slowly crept back into
the game in fourth quarter.
Magee, who had 25 points in the second half, hit a long range 3 pointer off an
inbounds pass with :56 left to pull Picayune to within two points with :56 left.
After Northeast converted two free throws to push the lead back to 66-62, Monique
Brown's put back of a missed shot cut the lead to 66-64. Northeast's Ebonie
Jefferson was fouled and one of two free throws for a 69-66 lead with :06 left.
Picayune mishandled the inbounds pass and Northeast scored at the buzzer on
the turnover to make the final 69-64.
Magee, a Dandy Dozen choice of The Clarion Ledger, finished with 33 points.
Fellow senior Jamelle Clark finished with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Chanel Wills
added 9 points for the Lady Tide.
