Benefit Tourney for Billips Draws Huge Turnout
by Carey Meitzler
The Picayune Touchdown Club and many area businesses teamed with Millbrook Golf and Country Club to hold a benefit golf
tourney for Picayune football player Jonathan Billips who recently suffered the loss of his mother in a house fire. The event was
a best ball event that drew 36 teams of 4 players each for an afternoon of golf and fellowship among what many said was the
largest turnout ever witnessed for an event at Millbrook.
Huey Stockstill, Jr., one of the organizers of the event, was overwhelmed by the response for the benefit tourney.
"Words can't described it. This was a great event. We think we have raised over $10,000.00. I didn't really know what I was
doing when we started putting this together, but Mike Mitchell (Millbrook Pro/Manager) gets all the credit putting it together.
I can't say enough about his effort."
All par 3 holes gave the golfers a chance to win some great prizes provided by Barry Harper Dodge. No one was able to score
the one stroker needed to win a 2007 Ram 1500 pickup, a Bose radio system, a set of golf clubs, and a Dell computer system.
The team of Regan Stocksill, Casey Crain, Glen Bates, and Clay Brunson took first place with a sizzling 16 under par
performance.
Thanks to all the businesses, the Millbrook staff (especially Mike Mitchell), the Picayune Touchdown Club, and all those who
participated in this worthy event for young Billips.
