Maroon Tide rolls past Pearl River Central 45-7

Picayune--The Picayune Maroon Tide raced to a big halftime lead and coasted to a 45-7 win over Pearl River Central 45-7

before 3,000 plus at Tide Stadium in Region 8-4A action.

Picayune scored on the opening possession of the game with a 6 play 64 yard drive that resulted in a 12 yard touchdown run from

junior running back Jarrod Jones.  Nick Riso's point after made it 7-0 with 9:52 left.

After the teams exchanged punts, Picayune's Cedric Brown intercepted a pass at the Maroon Tide 32 yard line.  The Tide would

move the ball to the Blue Devil 22 yard line and settle for a Riso 38 yard field goal with 1:01 left in the first quarter.

Picayune forced a PRC punt and took over at the Tide 42.  Jones scored on the seventh play of the drive from 16 yards out.

Riso converted the point after for a 17-0 lead with 6:26 left in the second quarter.

PRC drove the ball to the Tide 16 yard line on their next possession, but Picayune's Jacob Hickman jarred the ball loose and Chris

Nixon scooped it up and raced 79 yards for a touchdown.  Riso's extra point made it 24-0 with 2:28 left.

The Blue Devils elected to go for a first down on 4th down from their own 30 and the Tide held taking over with 1:18 left.  Junior

Jacob Kennedy threw a 5 yard touchdown pass to Nixon with :57 left and Riso's point after made it 31-0 with :57 left.

On the first play after the kickoff, Cedric Brown got the ball back for the Maroon Tide intercepting a PRC pass at the Blue

Devil 25 yard line.  On first down, Kennedy connected with Jamal Hall for a 35 yard pass play to the 5 yard line.  On the next

play, Hall ran around left end for the touchdown with :12 left.  Riso converted the PAT for a 38-0 halftime lead.

PRC scored midway through the third quarter.  Jake Smith intercepted a Kennedy pass at the PRC 20 and returned it to the Tide

9 yard line.  Tyler Lee passed to Cody Dillard for a 5 yard touchdown.  Brady Jordan made the point after for PRC.

Picayune's last score was 6 yard run by Hall with 2:14 left.  Matt Dragon kicked the extra point.

Hall finished with 140 yards on 12 carries.  Jones ran 13 times for 118 yards.  Kennedy completed 5 of 9 passes for 79 yards.

Next week, Picayune (4-1, 1-0) will travel to take on Poplarville for a 7:00pm kickoff.
