Forrest County topples Maroon Tide 30-23

by Carey Meitzler

Brooklyn--Picayune's late rally was not enough to overtake the home standing Forrest County AHS Aggies and the Maroon

Tide fell 30-23 in non-Region action before an estimated 2,700 at Henley Field.  FCAHS moves to 3-0 on the season while

Picayune falls to 0-2.

Picayune turned away the Aggies twice in the first quarter.  The first stop was at the Tide 22 on a fourth down run and the second

was a sparkling interception by Dereonte Magee at the Tide 13 yard line that came just three plays after the Tide had fumbled at

their own 27.

Picayune then moved the ball near midfield, but the Aggies intercepted a pass at their own 40 to take over with 2:03

left in the first quarter.   The Aggies drove to pay dirt in 5 plays scoring on the first play of the second quarter on

a 3 yard run by Isiah Jackson. Chris Fiveash kicked the point after for a 7-0 lead with 11:56 left.

The Maroon Tide answered on their next possession driving 66 yard in 5 plays with Jacob Kennedy throwing

an 11 yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Moore in the left corner of the end zone with 9:45 left.  The PAT was

wide left leaving the score at 7-6.

Picayune took over on downs at their own 41 with 5:45 left and drove 60 yards in 8 plays with Kennedy finding

Chris Burton on a 10 yard touchdown pass with 3:05 left.  Kennedy converted the 2 point conversion with a

strike to Wayne McMooain to make it 14-7.

The Aggies then scored on a 55 yard run by Markeysus Johnson and got a 2 point conversion when holder

Austin Archer scooped up a low snap on the extra point attempt and raced in around right end to give FCAHS

a 15-14 lead with 2:06 left.

Picayune fumbled the ensuing kickoff and the Aggies scored on the first play after the fumble recovery on a

30 yard touchdown pass from Riley Brown to Jackson.  Fiveash's point after made it 22-14 with 1:53 left.

ball to the Aggie 10 yard line, but fumbled it back to FCAHS.

The Aggies drove 90 yards in 10 plays getting the touchdown on a 12 yard run by Jackson with 5:01 left.

Picayune move quickly down the field covering 55 yards in 6 plays taking just over one minute off the

clock with Jamal Hall scored on a 1 yard run with 3:50 left.  The point after was wide left.

On the next possession, the Tide forced FCAHS into a punting situation.  The Aggie punter appeared

to attempt to run for a first down, then elected to attempt a running rugby style kick near the Aggies'

sideline.  A Picayune defender ran into to the punter and was flagged for a roughing the kicker penalty

which gave FCAHS a first down and allowed the Aggies to run out the clock.

Hall led Picayune with 27 rushed for 211 yards.  Kennedy was 8 of 16 for 101 yards.

Johnson had 103 yards on 15 carries while Jackson rushed for 59 yards on 12 carries and caught

5 passes for 110 yards.

Picayune has an open date next week and returns to action on September 18th at Pascagoula.
