Maroon Tide trounces 'Goula 27-0

by Carey Meitzler

Pascagoula--Picayune used a smothering defense and three big plays to garner their first win of the season with a 27-0 shut

out of Pascagoula at War Memorial Stadium on the Panthers' homecoming night.

The Maroon Tide drew first blood on Jamal Hall's 2 yard run with :39 left in the first quarter.  The touchdown capped off a

12 play 67 yard drive on Picayune's second possession of the game.  Pacer Frierson converted the point after for a 7-0 lead.

On the second play after the ensuing kickoff,  Dereonte Magee caused a fumble and Chase Tretbar scooped up the loose ball

at the 'Goula 13 and ran it to the five yard line.  Jarrod Jones scored from two yards out on second down and Frierson's point

after made it 14-0 with 11:08 left in the second quarter.

Picayune extended their lead to 20-0 with 3:05 left when Jacob Kennedy connected with tight end Malcolm Faciane on

a 35 yard touchdown catch and run.  Faciane grabbed the pass at the 'Goula 15 and broke two tackles and dragged a third

Panther defender with him into the end zone.  The extra point was wide left.

Picayune closed out the scoring on a 43 yard burst up the middle by Jarrod Jones with 5:21 left in the game.  Dalton O'Meara

converted the point after.

Jones, who spearheaded the Maroon Tide defense with eleven tackles, and his defensive teammates, limited 'Goula (1-3)

to just two first downs and 17 total yards in the first half.

Hall finished with 166 yards on 28 carries while Jones added 7 rushes for 69 yards.  Kennedy completed 6 of 7 passes

for 52 yards.

Up next, Picayune (1-2) travels to McComb to open Region 3-5A play at the Tigers' C.C. Moore Stadium.
