Maroon Tide thrashes Brookhaven 47-14

Picayune--Picayune got another strong defensive performance and five different runner scored touchdowns as the Maroon Tide
thrashed the Brookhaven Panthers 47-14 at Tide Stadium. The win, Picayune's fifth in a row, moved the Maroon Tide's record
to 5-2 overall and 4-0 in Region 3-5A play. The win assures the Maroon Tide of a playoff berth.
Picayune scored on the first possesion of the game. Malcolm Faciance, one of the up-backs on the return team, took the opening
kickoff from the Maroon Tide 34 to the Brookhaven 44 yard line. Seven plays later, Jamal Hall scored from 4 yards out with 9:01
left and Pacer Frierson converted the point after for a 7-0 lead.

Picayune got the ball back at their own 35 when Troy Egana forced a Panther fumble and Robert Bender pounced on
the ball. The Maroon Tide marched the 65 yards in 13 plays with Chris Burton scoring from 3 yards out with :27 left
in the quarter. The extra point attempt was blocked.
Brookhaven cut the lead to 13-7 with a 17 yard run by quarterback Duone Harris with 10:40 left. Dewey Stailey
kicked the point after.
Picayune took over at their own 32 after the ensuing kickoff and scored 11 plays later on Joel "Dually" Davis' 8 yard
touchdown run with 5:42 left. Dalton O'Meara converted the extra point for a 20-7 lead.
In the second half, Picayune got touchdown runs from Hall (1 yard), Scottie Merrill (1 and 22 yards), and Dereonte Magee
(6 yards) to pull away. Brookhaven got another touchdown from Harris, this time from 4 yards out.
Hall rushed for 125 yards on 27 carries in three quarters. Merrill had 6 carries for 110 yards and Davis added 8 rushes for
54 yards while Burton gained 41 yards on 4 totes. Jacob Kennedy completed 3 of 5 passes for 24 yards.
Next week, Picayune hosts Pearl River Central.
