Moss Points turns back Tide 41-19

Picayune--The Moss Point Tigers held off a second half rally from Picayune to defeat the Maroon Tide 41-19 in a non-region

contest at Picayune.  The Tigers used a grueling ground game that churned up 394 yards and their sure footed place-kicker Jason

Loris to set the tone for the game.

Moss Point took the opening kickoff and drove to the Tide 15 where they settled for a Loris 32 yard field goal with 8:32 left in

the first quarter.

After Loris' touchback on the ensuing kickoff, Jamal Hall busted loose on the Tide's first play and raced to the Tigers 9 yard line.

Two plays later the Tide score only to have the play nullified by a penalty.  On the next play, Moss Point's Telvis Henderson

intercepted a pass in the end zone.

Moss Point then scored in 5 plays covering the 80 yards with Byron James plunging in from 1 yard out.  Loris' point after

made it 10-0 with 4:01 left.

Picayune's next possession ended on a fumble at the Tigers' 35 yard line.  After an exchange of punts, the Tigers struck

on fullback Reggie Matthew's 56 touchdown run with 8:20 left in the second quarter.  Loris converted the extra point for

a 17-0 lead.

The Tide responded by driving 80 yards in 12 plays with Hall bullying his way in from 2 yards out with 2:56 left.  The extra

point bounced off the left upright and the score was 17-6.

After the Picayune kickoff, Moss Point started on their 25 yard line and marched 75 yards in 5 plays with quarterback

Qauyshaun Williams scoring on a keeper around left end for a 10 yard touchdown with 1:21 left.  Loris' point after made

it 24-7 at the half.

Picayune scored with 5:19 left in the third quarter on Hall's 2 yard run and Dalton O'Meara kicked the extra point to make the

score 24-13.

The Tide defense held and Moss Point's punt only went 8 yards giving Picayune the ball at the Tigers' 28.  Eight plays later,

Jacob Kennedy scored a quarterback sneak on the first play of the fourth quarter.  The 2 point conversion failed and the

score was 24-19 with 11:57 left.

Moss Point responded on their possession getting a 22 yard field goal from Loris to push the lead to 27-19 with 9:24 left.

Picayune's next two possessions produced a punt from their 15 yard line and turning the ball over on downs  from the Tide 20.

The Tigers pulled away on a 18 yard touchdown pass from Williams to O'Shawn Richardson with 3:59 left and again on a

50 yard run by Matthews with :57 left.

Jamal Hall finished with 201 yards on 27 carries for Picayune (0-1).  Jacob Kennedy connected on 8 of 18 passes for 82 yards.

Matthews accounted for 152 yards on 7 rushes for Moss Point (1-1).

Next week, Picayune will travel to Brooklyn to face Forrest County AHS for a 7:30pm game.
