Maroon Tide blasts Moss Point 53-13

Moss Point--Picayune dominated the Moss Point Tigers in the Maroon Tide's opener as the Maroon Tide
rushed for 438 yards and defensively stymied the Tigers in posting an impressive 53-13 win at Dantzler
Stadium in front of an estimated 5,000.
Jamal Hall ran for 267 yards on 23 carries scoring two touchdowns, the second coming on a highlight
reel 47 yard touchdown run on his last carry of the game with 4:31 left in the third quarter. Hall opened the
scoring in the game with an 8 yard touchdown run on the Maroon Tide's first possession of the game as
they marched 80 yards in 8 plays to take a 7-0 lead with 8:20 left in the first quarter.
After forcing a Tiger punt on their first set of downs, Picayune went 58 yards in 8 plays with junior Scottie Merrill
sprinting in from 23 yards out with 3:14 left. Pacer Frierson converted his second extra point for a 14-0 lead.
PIcayune scored again when the Tide got the ball back after a missed field goal attempt by Moss Point. Merrill
scored from 5 yards out to cap off a 6 play 60 yard drive. Frierson tacked on the PAT for a 21-0 lead with 9:29
left on the second quarter clock.
Hall, often referred to as "Bus No. 2", last run of the night made it 28-0 with 6:56 left in the third.
Picayune recorded a safety when junior Cody Smith tackled the Moss Point punter in the end zone on the next
Tiger possession for a 30-0 advantage.
Sophomore Ben Hickman threw touchdown passes on his first two attempts in varsity action. The first came
on a 35 yard toss to senior Eric Smith with 3:07 left in the third. After Brandon Landry intercepted a Tiger pass
at the Moss Point 40, Hickman found Joel "Dually" Davis open in the right flat and Davis romped down the
sideline for a 32 yard score. Frierson added both extra points for a 44-0 lead.
Brelan Booker returned the ensuing kickoff 92 yards to get Moss Point on the scoreboard with :51 left in the
game.
After the teams exchanged punts, Tide punter B.J. Jeansonne penned the Tigers deep in their own territory
with a high spiraling punt that long snapper DaKeith Burton downed at the 1 yard line. On the first play, the
Maroon Tide swarmed through tacking the Moss Point running back for a safety and a 46-7 lead.
Sophomore Desmond Taylor scored from 55 yards when Picayune got the ball back on the free kick.
Moss Point got their final points on a 33 yard run by Thomas Nettles.
Picayune's defense got a stellar performance from linebacker Troy Egana and defensive back Dereonte
Magee. Offensively, T-Desmond McDougal, G-Devin Roberts, C-Kresean Bowens, G-Andrew Frierson,
T-Joey Reynolds, TE-Tanner Bryan, and TE-Malcolm Faciane dominated the Moss Point defensive front
allowing the Maroon Tide offense to roll up their big numbers on the ground.
Picayune (1-0) will host Forrest County AHS next Friday.
