Admirals Sail Past Picayune 35-14

Gulfport--Gulfport used big plays on offense and a stingy defense in defeating Picayune 35-14 at
Joseph Milner Stadium in non-region action.
After Picayune was three and out on the first possession of the game, Gulfport scored on their fourth
snap on a 41 yard run by Lorazzo Shugart with 8:19 left in the first quarter. Cain Suddith's point after
made it 7-0.
Picayune and Gulfport exchanged punts on their next possessions. After the Gulfport punt, Picayune
started at their 44 yard line and took 8 plays to score with Josh 'Little Train' Littles sliced in from
8 yards out with 11:27 left in the second quarter. Jackson Samples converted the point after to tie
the game at 7-7.
The Admirals wasted little time it retaking the lead as Dion Cole raced 76 yards for a touchdown on
the third play after the Maroon Tide kickoff. Suddith on
ce again made this point after to give Gulfport
a 14-7 lead with 10:21 left in the half.
Picayune took the ensuing kickoff and moved the ball to the Gulfport 20, but a fumble would give the
ball back to Gulfport. The Admirals struck quickly again as Shugart ran 50 yards on the fourth play
of the possession for a touchdown with 5:34 left. Suddith's PAT made it 21-7.
Picayune took the ensuing kickoff and marched down the field from its 20 to the Gulfport 14, but a
missed field goal ended the drive with :16 left in the half.
Gulfport scored on their next possession on a fourth down pass at the Picayune 32 yard line from
Rhodes Walker to Sean Daniels with 7:30 left in the third quarter. Suddith was once again true
on his extra point for a 28-7 lead.
Picayune responded on their next possession going 80 yards in 11 plays with V.J. Holt scooting
in from 7 yards out. Samples point after made it 28-14 with 3:08 left in the third quarter.
Picayune's defense stopped the Admirals on their next possession forcing a punt and Picayune
took over at the Maroon Tide 20. Picayune moved the ball down to the Gulfport 18, but Gulfport
stopped Picayune on a fourth down run to take over on downs.
Three plays, Gulfport ended the scoring on a 84 yard pass on a third down and ten to go play with
Walker connecting with Alton Conerly for the touchdown. Suddith's extra point made it 35-14.
Littles paced Picayune's offense with 147 yards on 28 carries. Blake Merrifield ran 9 times for
29 yards and Hold had 72 yards on 6 rushes. Merrifield also caught 2 passes from Skylar Bowman
for 39 yards. Bowman completed 4 of 8 passes for 62 yards.
Picayune (0-3) will be at home on Friday hosting Harrison Central at Riser Medical Associates Field
at Tide Stadium for a 7:00pm kickoff.
