Maroon Tide Wins Shootout in Last 8 Seconds 

The Maroon Tide's Sylvester Grays ran in from 7 yards out with :08 left in the game as Picayune

defeated George County 38-30 in a shootout at Picayune Memorial Stadium on Thursday night. 

George County jumped out in front 8-0 as Billy Joe Johnson ran in from 8 yards out and Skyler

Sceles added the 2 point conversion with 6:32 left in the first quarter. 

Picayune responded on their first possession as Gabe Hinojosa rumbled down the visitor

sideline on his way to a 73 touchdown run with 4:09 to play in the quarter.  Reginald Bailey

ran in the 2 point conversion to even the score at 8-8.

On George County's next possession, Anthony Jones blocked the Rebel punt and Bailey

scooped up the loose ball and raced 46 yards for the touchdown.  Jones ran in the 2 point

conversion for a 16-8 Tide advantage with 1:29 left in the first quarter.

The Tide's Corcelli Smith recovered the ensuing kick off at the George County 33 yard line. 

Picayune capitalized on the turnover as Josh Nixon punched it in on a 17 yard run.  The 2 point

pass attempt was intercepted, but the Tide led 22-8 with 5:37 left in the second quarter.

George County countered on their next possession as Johnson scored from 18 yards out

and added the 2 point conversion to pull the Rebels to within 22-16 with 1:15 left before

halftime.

The Tide came roaring back with a halfback pass from Sylvester Grays to Josh Nixon

covering 44 yards down to the Rebel 4 yard line.  One play later, Reginald Bailey

scooted in from 3 yards out for the touchdown.  Anthony Jones ran in the 2 point

conversion for a 30-16 lead with :23 left.

George County was not done yet for the first half as they scored on a 60 yard pass

play with :06 left and made the 2 point conversion to send the game to halftime with

Picayune leading 30-24.

George County tied the game early in the 4th quarter taking advantage of a bad snap

over the Picayune punter at the Tide 20 yard line. The Rebels score came on 3rd and

goal from the Tide 18 yard line when Skyler Sceles scored on a reverse.  With the

game tied at 30-30, Picayune's Johnathan Pervel tackled Johnson for a loss on the

2 point conversion attempt.

Picayune returned the ensuing Rebel kickoff to the Tide 32 yard line. From there,

the Maroon Tide put together a 8 play 68 yard drive culminating in Grays 7 yard run

game winning touchdown.

George County would get one more chance as they returned the kickoff to their own

39 yard line.  But Pervel once again came up with a big play for the Tide sacking

quarterback Davis and causing a fumble as time expired.

George County led 14-0 at the half and added another score on an interception return

for a score in the 3rd quarter to shut out the Tide.
