PRC rallies past Lady Tide 6-5 in 8 innings

by Carey Meitzler

Carriere--Krista Davis singled just inside the right field line to score Kelsey Templet in the bottom of the 8th inning to give

Pearl River Central a 6-5 at the Pearl River Central Sports Complex.

Picayune scored first when Mallorie Mixon, who had four hits in five plate appearances, tripled to the left field corner.  Mixon

scored on Taylor Seals sacrifice fly to left field for a 1-0 lead.

PRC (3-7, 1-2) tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning.  With two outs, Brooke Serpas had an infield single and was

awarded second base on an errant throw to first base that ended up in the first base dugout. Templet singled to right field to

plate Serpas.

In the fifth, PRC's Katy Miley drew a one-out walk and scored on Katy Nilsson's two out double for 2-1 lead.

Picayune (3-8, 0-4) got a run in the top of the sixth when Brandi Rabion singled. Hillary Dickens, batting against her first

cousin Becky Mitchell, doubled off the fence in left field to move Rabion to third base.  Rabion scored on a wild pitch to

tie the game at 2-2.

The Lady Blue Devils scored two runs in the sixth.  Brooke Serpas and Templet, who had four hits on the evening, each

singled to start the inning. Davis laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners up to second and third.  Caitlyn Herrin's

grounder scored Serpas and Templet scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-2.

With two outs and no one on base, Seals singled to center field and stole second base. Katie Kent doubled down the left field line

to score Rabion.  Kent scored on Dickens single to right field to the game at 4-4.  Kent, who pitched the entire game for Picayune,

held PRC scoreless in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.

Using the International Tie-Breaker format, Picayune's Brooke Ladner, the last out from the previous inning, started the inning at

second base.  Ladner moved to third base on Brooke Meitzler's sacrifice bunt. After a strikeout, Mixon singled sharply to right

center driving in Ladner for a 5-4 lead.

PRC placed Nilsson on second base to start the bottom of the 8th inning.  With one out, Templet tripled to right field driving in

Nilsson.  Davis, whose uncle is Maroon Tide baseball third baseman Brandon Jurich, delivered her game-ending single to right.
