Warriors' Wagner one-hits Lady Tide 8-0
by Carey Meitzler
D'Iberville--Picayune's Lady Tide faced Kimi Wagner on D'Iberville's Senior Night and Wagner was near perfect in leading her
team past Picayune 8-0 in the debut of the Warriors new state of the art facility.
Picayune went three up and three down in the top of the first inning, but the Lady Tide was making contact against the
dominating Wagner. D'Iberville pushed across four runs, three coming after an errant throw on a grounder to third
that could have ended the inning with only one earned run. The Lady Warriors added earned runs in the second and third to
build a 6-0 lead. Two unearned runs in the sixth pushed the margin to 8-0.
D'Iberville's sparkling new facility had a slight distance problem. As the top of the second inning began, the coaches decided to
measure the distance from home plate to the pitchers' plate and they discovered it was about 4-5 feet too far back from the
regulation 40 feet. After moving the plate up, Picayune only managed one baserunner. Brooke Meitzler singled down the left
field line on a 3-2 count in the bottom of the sixth to break up Wagner's second bid on a perfect game against Picayune during
the past two seasons. Wagner finished with 15 strikeouts.
