Stone stings Lady Tide 4-0

by Carey Meitzler

Picayune--Stone County came into their non-region game against Picayune with everyone anticipating a pitcher's duel between

the Lady Tide's Jessie Frierson and Stone's Heather Beasley, but Julie Holley stole the evening as she pitched in place of the

injured Beasley and hurled a 4-0 to pace the Lady Cats.

Stone scored unearned runs in the second, third, and fifth innings taking advantage of Tide throwing errors and missed base

coverage assignments.   The only earned run surrendered by Frierson was in the top of the seventh when the Lady Cats used a

walk, stolen base, and a double to score an insurance run.

Tiffany Devore (20) lays down a bunt and would beat it out for a base hit.

Picayune appeared to have a shot at scoring in the bottom of the second when Millie Gill singled with two outs, but Stone's

left fielder made a near perfect throw to the plate to gun down Lady Tide runner Tiffany Devore who was attempting to

score from second base.

The Lady Tide loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth with one out, but Holley pitched out of the jam by recording

a strike out and a inducing a infield pop fly to end the threat.

Picayune had five singles with Devore collecting two singles.  Tough luck loser Frierson allowed only two hits, struck out

eight, and walked seven.

Picayune (3-2) continues their home stand with games against Purvis on Friday and Biloxi on Saturday.
