Poplarville 7 Picayune 6
Kasey Mitchell pitched 7 innings allowing only 4 hits, one earned run, walked one, two hit by pitch and struck
out four, but the Lady Tide defense committed 10 very costly errors and Poplarville defeated the Tide 7-6 at
Poplarville on Tuesday. The game, originally scheduled for April, was moved up due to a Poplarville scheduling
conflict.
Both teams were held scoreless until Picayune scored 4 runs in the third. With
one out Kasey Mitchell
reached base on a walk followed by another walk by Courtney Dickens. Krystal
Penton hit an RBI double to
score pinch runner Tara Dunn (who was running for Kasey). After Amanda Feeley
flied out to the short stop.
Hope Guidry hit a 2 run triple to score
Dickens and Penton. Amanda Stevens followed with a single to
plate Hope Guidry for a 4-0 lead.
Poplarville cut the lead to 4-2 in the 4th when their lead off batter reached
on a base on balls and the next batter
was credited with an inside the park
homerun as the Lady Tide misplayed a ball in the outfield.
In Picayune's half of the fifth inning off, they loaded the bases as Dickens,
Penton and Feeley all singled.
With bases loaded Guidry hit into a fielders choice forcing Dickens at home. Stevens followed with a walk forcing
in Penton, followed by a single by Breonne Spikes to plate Feeley. Picayune led 6-2, but that is all the Lady Tide
could muster in scoring.
Poplarville rallied in the sixth to tie the game and then won it in their last
at bat. In the 7th Poplarville's lead off
batter reached on a hit and then advanced to second on a throwing error. The runner was advanced to third on a
bunt and scored on a throwing error to win the game
