Picayune 4 Columbia 3
The Lady Tide held a 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the seventh, only to see Columbia rally to score three
runs to make it close. With the 4-3 victory, the Lady Tide's improved its record to 4-3-1 on the year.
The game remained scoreless until the
third inning when the Lady Tide managed to put two runs on the board.
With one out, Kristin Fleming reached on a base on balls. Courtney Dickens placed
a perfect bunt down the 3rd
base line to advanced Fleming to third. An error by the catcher allowed Dickens to reach first safely. Amanda
Feeley walked to load the bags and Krystal Penton drilled one to the second baseman, who mishandled it, that
allowed the two runs to score and put
Picayune up 2-0.
The Lady Tide managed to push across two more runs in the 6th as Krystal Penton
reached on a single down
the right field line. Hope Guidry laid down a sacrifice bunt that was mishandled and allowed Penton to score.
Malissa Fowler managed to push Guidry
across the plate as she put the ball into play down the third base line and
beat out the throw to first. The Tide led 4-0.
In the bottom of the 7th Columbia was able to draw three consecutive base on
balls to load the bases. With bases
loaded and two outs, another base on balls walked a run in and make it 4-1. Next, Columbia had a double to left
field bringing in two more runs to cut the margin to 4-3 score. However, a fielders choice ended the game as
Malissa Fowler was able to make the
play and the Lady Tide hung on for the nail-biting 4-3 victory.
Columbia managed 5 hits, 5 walks and one strike out. Picayune was held to three
hits, five walks and 14 strikeouts.
Picayune is scheduled to play at home this Friday night against Long Beach .
