Hillery's Platinum Cinco Leads Picayune to 8-0 Win
Contributed by Bill Hillery and Carey Meitzler

Three weeks ago, the Picayune Maroon Tide opened their season, on their new field, with a first

ever loss to county rival Pearl River Central Blue Devils by a score of 4-2. Last night they got the

rematch and a little payback as they defeated PRC 8-0 in Carriere behind a five goal effort from

senior Scott Hillery. If 3 goals is a Hat Trick, 4 goals a Golden Sombrero, then Hillery's performance

must be dubbed a Platinum Cinco.

The first 20 minutes saw some of the best passing and combination play ever produced by a Picayune

soccer team in recent memory. In the first minute of the game Scott Hillery took a forward pass from

freshman TJ House and sent the ball across the field to Franco Martinez, who quickly passed to Joe

"Spinners" Burrage who put it in the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.

Ten minutes later House passed a ball through the Blue Devil Defense where Scott Hillery raced past

the defenders for his first of five goals. That was the story of the night as Hillery's speed was too much

for the Blue Devils. Hillery scored the next two goals on through passes from sophomore Joe Burrage

and  the teams went to the half with Picayune leading 4-0.

Seven minutes into the second half Hillery was fouled just outside the box and towards the sideline

giving Picayune a direct kick. On the beautifully taken set piece, Britton Fortenberry placed the ball into

the upper far corner of the net out of the reach of the PRC goalie. Britton then got goal number six for

Picayune as he ran past the Blue Devil defense on a through ball from eighth grader Franco Martinez

and beat the goalie at the near post. Hillery scored next by dribbling through three Blue Devil defenders

and past the goalie to put it in the net. The senior then scored his fifth and the teams eighth goal of the

night on another break away this time on a through pass from junior defender Ryan Campbell.

Junior Kaleb Raybon had a outstanding night in goal getting the shutout. The Tide pushed their record

to 4-3-1 all in non district play.

In women's action PRC defeated Picayune 4-1 in a pouring rain storm. Breeana Fortenberry got the loan

Picayune goal. Both teams will be back in action Friday night in Poplarville."
