Boys 4 Pope John Paul 1
Joe Burrage scored the only first half goal on a pass from Franco Martinez.
Britton Fortenberry opened up the second half with a break away goal on a
pass from Mitchell Jacobs. Fortenberry scored again by dribbling through
the Pope John Paul defense and shooting the ball past the goalie. Joe Burrage
then tried to one up Fortenberry by dribbling through the defense and the
goalie and then just slow rolled the
ball into the back of net.
With less than 10 minutes remaining, in the 40 minute half, Pope John Paul
scored when the defense failed to clear the ball and it deflected off a
Picayune defender. The deflection sent the ball behind goalie Kaleb Raybon
and allowed a PJP player to get an
easy shot.
The win brought the Maroon Tide record to 6-4-2.
Pope John Paul 4 Girls 2
Ana Lee scored an early first half goal when she one timed a Breeana Fortenberry
corner kick into the back of the net. Late in the half the Pope John Paul lady's got
the equalizer when a bad Lady Tide goal kick went to an unmarked PJP forward
right in front off the goal. The Lady Tide keeper didn't have a chance with the quick
shot. In the second half the lady's of Pope John Paul broke the game open with
three more goals. Picayune was only able to get one back on a score by Vanessa
McCrory.
The Lady Tide's record is now 4-5 and will play their first district game at
home
against Oak Grove Monday at 5:30.
