by Carey Meitzler
Amanda Feeley has been nominated for the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi 2005 PopStar Award in Slow-Pitch Softball
presented by The Clarion-Ledger. The awards will be presented, at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum in Jackson
on May 16, 2005. The award honors the top three high school athletes in twenty-one sports categories. All male and female high
school athletes in Mississippi were eligible for the award, and Amanda is one of the three top nominees.
Each of the top three athletes will be introduced to the audience during a salute and the number one athlete in each category will
be presented a PopStar Award.
"I am very happy for Amanda and the recognition this brings to her and our program. She worked extremely hard during the offseason
and spent countless hours after practice hitting bp (batting practice) in order to be the best she could for her team. The nomination
for this award in itself is an extreme honor and has been given to a deserving young lady," said Coach Kristi Mitchell.
Feeley played outfield for the Lady Tide during the 2004 season. She carried a golden bat leading her team to a South
State Championship as she belted 14 home runs for the Lady Tide with a .662 batting average, 57 RBI, and 55 runs scored.
