by Carey Meitzler

On Tuesday night at the Lady Tide Softball Complex, one could have

easily mistaken the evening as 'Senior Night' ' as Picayune's three

seniors came through in a big way to propel the Lady Tide to a 3-2

win over Vancleave.

Casey Mitchell slides safely into home for the

Lady Tide's first run.

With the game tied at zero, Picayune pushed across all three

of its runs in the bottom of the third inning.  Senior Kasey Mitchell

drew a base on balls to start the inning and moved to second on

Katie Kent's single.  Kayla Bounds ripped an RBI double to plate

Mitchell on a close play at home.  Senior Kellye Bolar hit into a

fielders choice, but collected an RBI as Kent scored the second

run for Picayune.  Senior Sarah Trexler's sharp single gave

Picayune what proved to be the winning margin when she drove

home Bounds.

Vancleave capitalized on three Lady Tide miscues and two

singles to score two runs in the top of the 4th inning, but the

Tide played flawless defense the rest of the way to hold on for

the win behind some smooth field from shortsop Mallorie Mixon,

second basemen Katie Kent, and pitcher Hillary Dickens.

Picayune (7-2) will travel to Meridian on Saturday for a

tournament before returning home to host D'Iberville on

Tuesday and Ocean Springs on Thursday.

Kayla Bounds (12) scores the decisive run as Sarah Trexler (22)

heads to first base.
