Lawrence County ends Lady Tide season

Picayune-- Speed, timely hitting, and defense enabled Lawrence County to defeat Picayune by scores of 4-0 and 10-4. 

The wins will give the Lady Cougars a chance to play for the South State Championship while the youthful Lady Tide's

season ends with an impressive 19-9 record.

Lawrence County scored a run in the second, fifth, and two in the sixth to take Game 1 by a 4-0 score.  Shania Starks,

the Lady Cougar's speed left centerfielder  hit safely in all four at bats, scored a run, drove in two, and teamed with left

fielder Tyra Griffin in to catch anything that hung in the air very long.  Shortstop Dee Dee Walker was flawless handling

nine chances in the game. First baseman Shelby Mitchell drove in the other two runs.

Amanda Green, Mallorie Mixon, and Taylor had two hits for the Lady Tide.

Game 2 unfolded with Picayune jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.  Jessica Rancifer singled and scored on

Amanda Green's infield single.  Green scored on Tiffany Reed's single to centerfield.  Picayune scored one run in the

second when Natassia Poole singled with one out and came home on a Lady Cougar throwing error on a relay throw

attempting a double play at first base.

Lawrence County tallied three runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 3-3.  Picayune scored a run in the fourth

on Brandi Rabion's one out single, a single by Hillary Dickens, and an RBI single by Tiffany Reed for a short-lived 4-3

lead.

The Lady Cougars tallied two runs in the bottom of the fourth and five in the bottom of the sixth while holding Picayune

scoreless.
