Lady Tide walks
Bulldogs 9-4
by Carey Meitzler
The Picayune Lady Maroon Tide used the most uncommon play in
slow pitch softball to their advantage in claiming a 9-4 win over Vancleave
on Tuesday night at Picayune. Base on balls, or a walk, are uncommon in
a game where swinging the bat at a pitched ball is the norm, aided the Lady
Tide in moving their record to 10-2.
Picayune scored three runs in the bottom of the first. Hillary Dickens fly ball
to right field was mishandled allowing Jessica Rancifer to score. Tiffany Reed
followed with a sharp single to centerfield scoring Brandi Rabion who had
reached earlier in the inning on a single to left field. Consecutive base on balls
to Katie Kent and Taylor Seals forced in a run scoring Brooke Meitzler who
was the courtesy runner for the pitcher
Dickens.
After Vancleave scored unearned runs in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th to tie the game,
Picayune erupted for 6 runs in the bottom of the sixth aided by six base on
balls from Vancleave pitchers. The Lady Tide's only hit during the inning
was an RBI single by Taylor Seals. Vancleave scored once in the top of
the seventh inning.
Picayune will travel to Long Beach on Thursday for JV (5:00 pm) and
Varsity action (6:00 pm).
