Lady Tide shuts out Columbia

by Carey Meitzler

Picayune- Two things have been pretty constant in the past few games for the Lady Tide.  One, Hillary Dickens has

been hitting the ball where the defenders aren't, and two, Sarah "Don't Call Me Sis Anymore" Dodd has been keeping

opposing batters off balance.  Both were evident again on Thursday as the Lady Tide shut out Columbia 10-0 in five innings.

With one out in the bottom of the first, Brandi Rabion and Dickens both singled to left field.  Tiffany Reed followed suit with a

single of her own that skipped over the third base bag allowing Rabion to score.  Taylor Seals singled to load the bases.  Katie

Kent hit into a fielder's choice to short that forced Seals out at second, but the relay throw to first was off the mark allowing

Dickens and Reed to score giving Picayune a 3-0 lead.

The Lady Tide added four more runs in the second.  Mallorie Mixon beat out a grounder for a single and Millie Gill singled to left.

Dodd doubled to left center field scoring Mixon.  Tiffany Devore singled to left field scoring Gill and putting Brooke Meitzler,

who had came on as a courtesy runner for Dodd, on third base.  Rabion single to score Meitzler. Dickens singled scoring Devore

to make it 7-0.

Meanwhile, Dodd kept the Lady Wildcats in check inducing fly balls for her fielders and making plays herself.

Picayune scored twice in the bottom of the third.  With one out, Mixon single to left center and Gill followed with a single to right.

Dodd singled to left scoring Mixon.  Gill scored a sacrifice fly by Devore that pushed the lead to 9-0.

The Lady Tide ended the game in the bottom of the fifth with a single run scored by Mixon.

Dickens was three for three on the night and has now hit safely in 14 of her last 16 at bats.  Mixon had three hits

in the same number of plate appearances as did Dodd.

The Lady Tide (5-2) will play in the Biloxi Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
