Lady Tide blasts d'Iberville 15-1

by Carey Meitzler

Picayune--The Lady Warriors from d'Iberville probably felt like the guy on the Geico commercial who gets

"winged" by a snowball from pitching great Randy Johnson during a snowball fight.  People will probably notice

that the Lady Tide bats were smoking and the result was a 19-hit attack that produced a 15-1 district win.

After pitcher Sarah Dodd worked a three-up, three-down first inning, the Lady Tide scored a run in the bottom

of the frame.  Tiffany Devore walked and Jennifer Walker singled.   With one out, Brooke Ladner drew a

base-on-balls to load the bases for Dodd who singled to left center field scoring Devore, but Walker was

thrown out at home on a strong throw from Lady Warrior center fielder Brianna Anderson.

d'Iberville tied the game with an un-earned run in the top of the second on a throwing error by the Lady Tide.

The Lady Tide sent 14 batters to the plate in the second inning and scored 8 runs.  Devore drove in the first two

runs with a triple to the right field corner.  Walker singled to left to score Devore.  Hillary Dickens then ricocheted

a ball off the foul pole (it's really the FAIR pole) for a home run.  Brooke Ladner singled and Dodd reached on a

bad-hop single off the shoulder of the shortstop.  Jessica Rancifer singled to load the bases.  Tanequa Myers

doubled to left center to clear the bases and pushed the lead to 9-1.

The Lady Tide added 2 runs in the third.  Devore doubled and scored from second when Walker grounded out

to the shortstop, but the first baseman's throw to third attempting to retire Devore bounced away down the left

field line.  Rancifer drove in Ladner who had singled.

Clarissa Jones hit a one-out solo home run over the left field fence.  With two outs, Devore and Walker singled

and Dickens launched her second dinger of the game for a three-run home run to make it 15-1.
