Submitted by Kristi Mitchell
The Picayune Lady Tide won their first district game of the season last night
against the Long Beach BearKittens pounding out 10 hits including three long
balls on their way to a 14-6 win. The Tide is now 9-1 overall, 1-0 in district.
Long Beach scored one run in the first to take an early lead but Picayune
would not be denied. With two outs Amanda Feeley reached way back and
blasted a solo home run to tie the game 1-1.
Picayune held Long Beach scoreless in the second and added one more run
of their own as Malissa Fowler drew a walk and advanced to third on a double
by Kellye Bolar. Fowler would then score on a sac fly by Anissa McDougle to
go ahead 2-1.
The lead changed sides again as Long Beach answered with three runs in the
third. With the Lady Tide down 4-2 and two outs, Amanda Feeley again steps
to the plate. She rips a hard shot down the left field side and reaches base
safely. Cassie Rabion then dug into the batters' box and blasted a two-run
home run to tie the score 4-4.
After a three up three down defensive inning the Lady Tide had a big 4th inning
scoring 7 runs off of five hits. Malissa Fowler led off the inning with a double and
moved over on a single by Kellye Bolar. Anissa McDougle singled to drive in
Fowler and Allison Bynum hit a hard shot that the short stop mishandled to load
the bags. Courtney Dickens followed with a hit to score Bolar and Krystal Penton
drove a hard shot off the 1st baseman to score pinch runner Deawn Breland and
Bynum. The Bearcats then decide to short pitch Feeley allowing her to reach on
a walk. Rabion then drilled a liner to the 3rd baseman who makes a great catch
to find baserunners off the bags. But, she overthrows the first baseman trying
to double off Feeley allowing Dickens and Penton to score. Breonne Spikes then
hit a single to score Feeley.
Long Beach scored two runs one in the 6th and 7th inning to round out their scoring.
Picayune was able to score three more in the 6th as Breonne Spikes hit a three
run homerun with Dickens and Penton on the bases.
Picayune plays Ocean Springs Tuesday at home. Game time is 5:30JV and 6:30V.
