Picayune Boys capture South State

The Picayune boys swim team captured the South State championship for the first time in school history

by outscoring second place Oak Grove by a 48 point margin.  Picayune finished with 373 points, Oak Grove

had 325, and Biloxi was third with 320 points.  Eighteen (18) teams competed in the boys meet.

The 200 medley relay team of Andrew Lohnes, Jake Martinez, Doug Hall, and Blake Rutherford won first place

with time of 1:46.57, which is a new school record.

Doug Hall took first place in the 500 freestyle and 100 butterfly.

Other swimmers with top five (5) finishes:

Blake Rutherford (2), Nick Riso (2), Andrew Lohnes (2), Ben Daly (2), Neil Jarrett (2), and Jake Martinez (1).

Others who scored for Picayune were Walter Rusby, Aaron Spiers, T.J. House, Clint Davis, and Jared Bates.

The Picayune girls finished 9th overall with 109.50 points.  Nineteen (19) teams competed in the girls meet

with Ocean Springs (318), Biloxi (275), and West Jones (265) taking the top three spots.

Scoring for Picayune were the following: Whitney Taylor, Shawna Bates, Emily Lander, Jessica Sentilles,

and Julie Hall.

Both teams will compete in the State meet at Laurel this Saturday, October 28th.
